Three Limerick Schools join Interschool Programme

Munster Blades Fencing Club expands to provide lessons at three Limerick schools!

Villiers Secondary School

Villiers Secondary School is a co-educational boarding and day secondary school located on the North Circular Road in Limerick. Founded in 1821 the management and staff embrace and maintain the traditional values of the school within a modern state of the art educational facility.

Fencing lessons will be available to boarders on alternate Saturday mornings, and commence September 28th.

Coláiste Chiaráin

Coláiste Chiaráin, Croom, Co. Limerick is situated just twenty minutes from the heart of Limerick city. This coeducational post-primary college offers full-time education to boys and girls from first year to Leaving Certificate level, ranging in age from twelve to eighteen years and is currently one of the fastest growing post-primary schools in Ireland.

Following last years introduction to fencing lesson for all Transition Year (TY) students, this year the TY students will be receiving about 8 hours of lessons including the use of modern electronic signalling equipment and a class competition using electric foils and lame jackets. Lessons start in January.

Ardscoil Rís

A holistic education is the core principle of life in Ardscoil Rís, Limerick where the highest of academic expectations are balanced with a broad co- and extra-curricular programme for the students.

The Transition Year students will commence a short course in January. As with Coláiste Chiaráin, the foundation course includes competition fencing using modern electronic equipment.

It is hoped that all three schools will send teams to the National Transition Year Fencing Championship held in Dublin in 2020. The competition is open to all schools who provide fencing lessons in their TY curriculum. More information about the competition can be found at https://irishfencing.net/interschool-cup/.
